the Grip

How do you hold the golf club? Where does it fit in your hands? This is a very important part of the game of golf and often it's the most misunderstood. In other sports, we grab whatever the tool is that's used to play and trust that our hand-eye coordination will do. In other sports that may be okay but for golf the ball we use to play doesn't move until we hit it so hand-eye coordination alone just doesn't work.

Time and consideration has to be given to each hand and then to them as a unit. The golf club or putter (being the tools we use to play) are made with angled surfaces at the end of them so it's difficult to conceptualize how the grip works to the ball where you want it to go.

target your aim

What is the purpose of your swing? Where do you want to the ball to go? The objective of the game is to get the ball into the hole in as few strokes as possible. This can be difficult to accomplish if you don't understand how to hit the ball where you want it to go based on where your body is aligned.

stance and setup

How do you stand at the ball? Are you in a "ready position" like in other sports?

This phase of learning and practice in golf is also underappreciated. So much goes wrong here even before the swing has occurred. Incorrect stances and setup can even lead to injury when swinging a golf club. The golf swing requires physical motion, balance, and at times exertion so its best that you begin with good fundamentals here.

This is what brings you back to the golf course and driving range every time. It's okay to fall in love with that driver! ^_^ Click on the video above and enjoy!
